Hello everyone,

I recently started assembling my Ikea Metod kitchen and keep encountering common pitfalls that make the assembly more complicated. I’m especially interested in how to avoid these mistakes from the start and how useful it is to strictly follow a step-by-step instruction to prevent running into problems later.

Many of the screws, drill holes, and assembly instructions may seem simple at first glance, but they often lead to small misalignments that can cause a lot of trouble down the line.

Does anyone have experience with a systematic approach to ensure a smooth assembly? What key points should be given special attention? And how detailed and strict should the Ikea instructions be followed – is it enough to glance over them roughly, or should every step be taken seriously?

Looking forward to your tips and opinions!

Always sort all parts first and compare them carefully with the manual. Then follow each step precisely without shortcuts. Pay special attention to the alignment of hinges and screws; otherwise, nothing will fit correctly.

Oh, Ikea Metod – what an adventure! 😄 My advice: take your time and don’t rush.

- Go step by step, don’t skip anything
- Flip through the instructions more than once if needed
- Always do a dry fit before you start screwing

This way, you’ll avoid nasty mistakes that later hide under the cabinet and annoy you. The fun should stay!

Good morning!

This topic is actually very relevant, as the Metod kitchen includes many individual parts and sometimes complex assembly steps. My recommendation:

- Start by sorting all materials according to the parts list and check for completeness. This will prevent unnecessary pauses if something is missing.
- Use Ikea’s step-by-step instructions carefully – they clearly explain how the individual components fit together. It is important not to skip any steps, especially when attaching cabinets and fronts.
- During assembly, ensure the cabinets are aligned straight with each other and that the recommended height and spacing measurements are followed. Lack of level alignment can cause problems with doors and drawers.
- For screws: don’t tighten them too tightly at first; rather, screw them in slowly and carefully, so you can still make adjustments if necessary.

In conclusion: it doesn’t have to be a professional setup, but a bit of patience and precision will pay off.

That sums it up perfectly. Especially the many small, often similar types of screws and dowels can quickly cause confusion. Therefore, I would like to specifically ask: How do you handle parts that look almost identical but have slightly different functions? For example, some screws seem to fit in several places but are only correct for one.

That sounds logical, but could you give specific examples of mistakes that tend to happen here? There are many hinge-related errors—from being too loose to being mounted crookedly. I am also considering involving a second person for the assembly to make control and adjustment easier.

A few precise tips to avoid mistakes when assembling the Ikea Metod kitchen:

- Screws and dowels are often quite similar, so I recommend using the supplied sorting bags and grouping the parts on a table before you start building.
- With the hinges, it is especially important to position them exactly at the specified height and side location. Even small deviations can cause doors that do not close properly or hang unevenly.
- Having a second person is really helpful, especially for aligning the units and securing them to the wall. One person can adjust while the other fastens.
- Use a spirit level multiple times to establish a solid basic alignment and prevent later adjustments.

The step-by-step Ikea instructions are designed to ensure no important intermediate steps are skipped. Following them strictly, especially with complex units, greatly reduces potential errors.
