Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the challenge of professionally and as easily as possible installing soft-close drawers in my IKEA METOD kitchen project. I already have the drawer fronts and the necessary soft-close drawer slides at home, but some details are causing me headaches:

- Are there any tips on how to align the drawer slides with millimeter precision so that the soft-close function works smoothly?
- How can I prevent the drawers from warping or not closing properly?
- Do you use any special tools or aids to ensure a secure and neat installation?
- Are there common mistakes in the installation process that I should definitely avoid?

I would really appreciate firsthand advice—both regarding preparation and the actual installation process. It would be great if the answers are based on realistic, professional methods to ensure the final result is clean and durable.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

1. Align the guide rails precisely using a caliper or spirit level.
2. Make sure all screws are tightened securely but not over-tightened.
3. Always install the rail at the height specified by IKEA in the instructions.
4. Test the drawer movement before fastening it permanently.

Avoid errors: Do not let the drawer jam, as this will prevent the soft-close function from working properly.

For assembling the IKEA METOD soft-close drawers, I recommend the following procedure:

- Preparation: Check the fit of all components and inspect the material quality before installation.

- Installation of the drawer runners: Use a small spirit level or a square guide to ensure precise alignment. Avoid overtightening when fastening, as this can affect the function of the soft-close mechanism.

- Adjustment: After inserting the drawer, test the soft-close function and make any necessary adjustments, since with METOD modules, gaps should be kept minimal to ensure optimal damping performance.

- Common issues: Avoid drawer fronts that are not perfectly flush, as this can cause irregular soft-close operation or accelerate wear of the runners.

Tools: A cordless drill with torque control, tape measure, spirit level, and possibly an angle grinder for adjusting drawer fronts are sufficient and recommended.

This structured approach ensures a durable result with a professional finish.

Aligning with millimeter precision feels like a tricky puzzle at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s really not complicated at all! My advice: mark exactly where the rail should go using a pencil and tape measure, and check the alignment beforehand with a small folding ruler.

Avoid mistakes: don’t let the drawer get misaligned, or the soft-close won’t work properly.

This is often underestimated – always make sure the drawer slides easily and smoothly before tightening everything down. Another little tip from me: if the drawer doesn’t close perfectly right after installation, just fine-tune the sliding paths a bit. It’s quick to do and makes the soft-close function much more effective.

I always take a moment to experiment by adding a small, soft felt strip on the inside edge of the drawer front if it rubs against the countertop. That way, the closing mechanism stays intact and you avoid frustrating sticking or jamming moments 😄.

And yes, using a cordless drill with adjustable torque is really helpful – otherwise, you might overtighten and damage the drawer.
