Hello everyone, I am currently planning my new kitchen using the Ikea Metod system and am wondering how to best install the drawer systems to maximize comfort and functionality in the kitchen. It is important to me that the drawers and pull-outs operate not only smoothly and stably but also as quietly and durably as possible. Does anyone have experience with the different drawer options available for Metod, such as soft-close systems, Blum, or other branded runners? What installation tips can you share to ensure the movement stays smooth and the drawers don’t stick even after long-term use? I am also interested in whether certain installation methods are particularly suitable for heavy pots or areas near the dishwasher, where moisture can be an issue. Some practical advice would be great, for example, how to best prepare the installation, what to watch for in alignment, and which mistakes to avoid.
An important installation tip that many overlook: Make sure the mounting rails for the Tandembox are not only aligned straight but also adjusted to the correct height. Unevenness can cause increased wear over time.
In cases of moisture, using PVC-coated flooring or at least applying a sealant is recommended to extend the lifespan of the drawers. Blum offers good compatibility with Ikea in this regard, but it is important to carefully check your specific kitchen setup.
If you plan to use special inserts or organizers, also verify that the total drawer height remains sufficient; otherwise, comfort may be affected.

An addition regarding prevention of stagnation and wear: After installation, I recommend regularly cleaning and lightly lubricating the guides – usually, a dry silicone spray or a special lubricant from Blum is sufficient.
Additionally, I have had good experience with precision installation by first fixing the rail on one side only and then aligning the other side to the exact millimeter before finally tightening all the screws. This helps prevent the drawers from jamming on longer units.
Could you specify in more detail how you plan to install the doors relative to the pull-outs? Are there any specific widths or gaps to consider?

Could you please describe in more detail which types of pull-outs and cabinet widths you are planning? Then I can give you specific advice. I am using base cabinets 60 cm wide (24 inches). I mainly planned full-extension Tandembox drawers from Blum, with multiplex drawer boxes 20 mm thick (0.8 inches). The fronts are intended to be handleless and close flush magnetically. I don’t want to install additional doors since I am only using drawers. Nevertheless, there will be a gap of just under 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) between the fronts. The drawer heights vary—deep drawers at the bottom, shallower ones at the top for cutlery and small items. I’m very interested in your opinion on this setup.

Very good, those are solid specifications. The 20 mm (0.8 inch) thickness for multiplex is sturdy enough for everyday use. Make sure to align the drawer slides precisely in the center; with 60 cm (24 inch) wide drawers, correct installation is essential. Because of the handleless fronts, you should ensure that the drawers open smoothly, possibly with push-to-open mechanisms, which require even more precise mounting.
Planning drawer heights in a stepped arrangement is ideal for usability and storage capacity. With a 1.5 cm (0.6 inch) gap between fronts, very accurate installation is necessary since this strongly affects both the visual impression and tactile feel.
If the gap is too large or too small, the drawers might rattle or stick—so adjustment within the millimeter range is recommended. For handleless kitchen systems, I also suggest repeatedly adjusting and testing all slides before final fastening.
