Hello everyone,

I am currently assembling my new IKEA Metod kitchen and have encountered a challenge with installing the drawers that feature an integrated damping system and soft-close function. My question is: what is the best way to simplify the installation process, especially for these drawers with damping and soft-close?

I have read that precise alignment of the drawers and careful insertion of the damping components are crucial, but I would really appreciate concrete tips on handling, useful tools, or tricks that make the installation easier. Are there efficient steps to speed up the assembly or common mistakes to avoid?

I look forward to your experiences and advice, detailed suggestions are very welcome, as I value a clean and properly functioning installation!

Hi fisu52,

I would recommend assembling the drawer slides completely first and working on the drawers separately.

- Get an extra pair of hands if possible.
- Use a screwdriver with a magnetic tip to prevent losing screws.
- Pay special attention to the alignment of the drawer runners; they should be perfectly straight.

This way you ensure everything is secure, and the soft-close mechanism will work as intended.

Hello fisu52,

your question about installing the Metod drawers with dampers and soft-close is definitely valid, as this topic can sometimes be quite complex.

The main points to consider are:
- Precise alignment of the drawer slides: The slides must be mounted exactly parallel and at the same height to ensure the drawer moves smoothly without any resistance.

- Care when inserting the damping components: You should avoid applying too much force to the mechanism. It is often helpful to attach the damper to the slide first and then insert the drawer.

- Avoid tightening screws too quickly: Especially during the initial assembly, it is advisable not to fully tighten screws before all parts are aligned. Minor adjustments are then easier to make.

A good tip: Before you start, make a simple plan outlining the order of tasks, for example, first align all slides carefully, then prepare the drawers, attach the dampers, and finally align everything properly and tighten all screws.

If you experience difficulties inserting the dampers, a light silicone spray on the tracks can help facilitate movement.

I hope this makes the installation easier for you. Good luck!

Absolutely right! If the slides aren’t installed perfectly, the drawer can easily turn into a comedy show 😂.

I’d also recommend having some fun with it and these little tips:

- Keep a piece of cardboard handy to support the drawer during installation, so you don’t pinch your fingers.
- Attach the damping elements only at the very end and roughly install the drawer first to see if everything fits.
- If it sticks, it’s usually due to slight angles—some fine-tuning never hurts.

And don’t worry, it’s like making a good kebab: you just have to find the right order, and then everything runs smoothly 😉.

Good luck and enjoy the soft closing of the doors!
