ᐅ IKEA Metod 20-inch drawers look better than the wire basket drawers.

I’m currently at IKEA and just tried out the new 20cm (8 inches) wide, 80cm (31 inches) high Metod drawers that will replace the previous wire drawers. They are white inside, have two levels (not sure if height adjustable), and feature soft close. I don’t know the price and whether I’m allowed to upload a photo I took myself. But I liked them much better than the old ones!

why not use a horizontal 80x20 drawer front and install it on a vertical 20x80 cabinet? ...What about the grain pattern for wood fronts / wood-look surfaces?
What about rounded edge profiles?
Okay, that’s somewhat understandable. It would be too logistically complicated if the planning software and the IKEA employee had to provide either a horizontal drawer front or a door in 20cm x 80cm (8 inches x 31.5 inches), depending on the front type. Especially since, for the drawer front, you’d also need different cover caps for the unused pre-drilled holes that are there. When it comes to Veddinge (edge profile all around, no grain since it’s a solid matte color), I will definitely opt for the horizontal drawer fronts, even if I might have to organize two extra screws and four cover caps.
During installation, it was also somewhat inconvenient that the handle has to be inserted through the pot hole. As a result, you need to create something yourself to support or adjust the spacing so that the handle can be screwed in flush on the inside. Normally, there would be a gray plastic housing for the hole, but it already has holes and does not fit well with the white housing. So, I used the white cover from step 10 of the linked instructions, drilled it through, and bridged the distance with washers.
I am not 100% satisfied with the drawer extension. The drawer slightly protrudes at the bottom, which is noticeable next to adjacent cabinets (in my case, only one cabinet), and I haven’t been able to fix this despite different loading patterns on the top/bottom/back/front. If you press against the drawer from below, it lines up with the neighboring cabinet—but logically, only as long as you keep pressing.

the issue with the handle is obviously inconvenient. However, it also depends on the handle type and the installation position. Regarding the front panel: is it not possible to adjust the front vertically using the adjustment options on the top rail?

If the drawer at the bottom sticks out a bit, you should remove the side covers of the drawer slides and readjust the height alignment of the drawers. The reason for the protrusion is usually that the slides are putting too much tension on the front panel, meaning the top drawer is set too low and the bottom drawer too high. This causes a slight outward bulge (not visible without a level) if you try to close the front panel flush at the bottom.
This issue also occurs with 40cm (16 inches) pull-out cabinets, where the front panel is fixed firmly to the top and bottom of a drawer slide. I would be surprised if you couldn’t resolve the problem, as Maximera slides offer very good adjustment options.
