Hello everyone,
I recently got an IKEA Malm nightstand and noticed that it sometimes wobbles when I gently push it, which is a bit annoying. The construction looks stable at first glance, but something seems off—maybe the screws aren’t tight enough, or there are unevenness issues with the legs? The nightstand is standing on a hardwood floor, which might also have an effect.
I’m interested in knowing: What are common causes for this wobbling with the MALM nightstand, and what targeted steps can I take to fix the problem permanently without damaging the furniture? I’m generally good with technical stuff but want to make sure I don’t overlook anything. Thanks for your advice!

There can occasionally be slight manufacturing tolerances in Malm nightstands, which may become more noticeable after attaching the furniture top, especially if the fastenings are not tightened properly.
It's good that you mentioned the Allen key. The cam locks are sensitive to uneven or overly tight tightening — it's better to proceed with care.
If you can use small washers or pads here and there to compensate for any unevenness on the legs, that is ideal. Make sure not to leave gaps that are too large between the legs and the floor, as this can still cause the furniture to wobble.
Finally, I would check whether any part is warped, since wood-based materials can react to moisture. If so, sometimes tightening screws firmly in the right places or adding small rubber or felt elements in between can help.

Also, try gently pushing the nightstand against the wall. That helped improve stability for me because the back panel gets more support. 🙂
And don’t worry, these are common minor issues with flat-pack furniture – nothing to stress about! 😉
