Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Malm chest of drawers that has been occasionally squeaking when I pull out or push in the drawers. I noticed that it doesn’t happen all the time, but only sometimes, probably depending on the load or the drawer’s position. Does anyone have experience with how to best fix this sporadic squeaking? I suspect it’s related to the metal runners or the rollers, but I’m not sure what the best approach is, especially since the noise isn’t constant. I would like to find a lasting solution without immediately replacing parts if cleaning or lubrication might help. Thanks in advance for any tips, including recommendations for suitable lubricants or other repair tricks!

If it only happens occasionally, it could also be that a screw or a part is slightly loose.Absolutely! Sometimes it’s the small things that cause the loud squeaking 😉 A properly tightened screw ensures a secure fit and no friction. So: grab your screwdriver!Hello carel, I am very familiar with that issue. I once had a similar problem, and what helped me was checking the drawer frame. Sometimes wooden or chipboard parts press lightly against each other, especially with changes in humidity – this can cause creaking or squeaking sounds. Light sanding in those areas, for example with fine sandpaper, can work wonders. Afterwards, you can apply a small amount of furniture wax. You are not alone with this problem – we’ll solve it!

Sometimes dust or small wood chips collect there, which then cause the squeaking. Thanks for the tip! I’ll do a thorough cleaning of the tracks and rollers today.

Have you checked if all the screws on the dresser are tight? I’ll check that right away; I had overlooked it so far.

Besides cleaning and lubricating, you could also consider rubbing wax onto the sliding tracks. Sounds interesting; I hadn’t thought of that. Maybe exactly the solution for the occasional cases.
I’ll try your suggestions first. If anyone has specific recommendations for lubricants or waxes, I would be very grateful. Many thanks so far – reading your experiences is already very helpful!
