Hello everyone,

I have an IKEA Malm bed (180x200cm (71x79 inches)) and recently it started creaking with every movement, especially when I turn over or get up during the night. It’s quite annoying and disrupts my sleep. Does anyone know the typical spots where this creaking might come from?

I suspect it’s the connections between the slatted frame and the bed frame, but the metal fittings could also be responsible. Are there any proven methods to reduce or seal these annoying noises?

What products (e.g., lubricants, rubber pads, felt strips) have you successfully used, and what approach would you recommend to make the bed as quiet as possible without completely taking it apart? Thanks for your advice!

WD-40 on lubrication points is more of a short-term solution because it evaporates.

Thanks for the tip, I wasn’t aware of that. Silicone spray sounds good – is it safe for use on wood as well, or should it only be applied to metal parts?

Some users also recommend silicone grease instead of oil, as it lasts longer and is less harmful to wood surfaces.

That’s interesting; I thought oil might damage the wood.

I’m also curious about how you apply the felt strips – do you just stick them onto the metal brackets, or rather onto the wood? Is there a preferred method to achieve the best results?

Thanks in advance to everyone who helps out here!
