Hello everyone,

as the question suggests, I find it surprising that IKEA kitchens are quite affordable. How is the workmanship, meaning the quality? And what about the IKEA hinges? Do IKEA kitchens last a long time?

Best regards

Dear Karsten
@Nordlys

Did you misunderstand me?
I loooove IKEA [emoji7]

Anyone buying from IKEA expects—also when it comes to kitchens—solid, durable, and modern-looking furniture, and generally that’s what they get.

If problems occur after purchase or delivery, customers—even those who don’t live close to an IKEA store—expect a contact person and quick advice, assistance, or after-sales service, for example by phone or email.

I really hope other customers have had better experiences in this regard than I have. I’ve spent hours on hold on the phone and often waited days to weeks for email replies. And when trying to respond to these emails, the cycle starts again: “We apologize for our currently long processing time of an average of 7 days. We are working hard to answer your inquiries as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
This is unworthy of a large corporation and frustrates me tremendously as a customer.

But I still hope I was just unlucky and that things work out wonderfully for others.

Why the hotline? Too far from IKEA?

In the past few months, I’ve installed a total of 6m (20 feet) of Pax, 3.4m (11 feet) of Godmorgon, and about 25m (82 feet) of Metod, but I never once contacted the hotline.

Edit: okay, I missed that. That’s obviously inconvenient. On-site service usually works very quickly, as long as you’re not showing up on a Saturday.

There seem to be new Förvara drawers available. I bought the remaining stock of the old ones for the workshop from the clearance section. They were sold off for €6.90. The new ones look more like the Maximera drawers, but I’m not familiar with the technical differences compared to the old Förvara models.

This forum has taught me that you really shouldn’t take the topic of IKEA kitchens too seriously. IKEA is mostly about fun and entertainment.
Since then, I no longer get upset about my kitchen still waiting to be completed and now enjoy the many pleasant phone interactions with the IKEA staff. And I mean that sincerely—they really are friendly. Often, they don’t know exactly what needs to be done, but it’s not really their fault because the installers didn’t document all the missing items. Also, they aren’t aware of the emails exchanged over time. However, they politely ask which sink and dishwasher I have installed, and I update them by reading out the IKEA delivery note or dictating nameplates. The calls usually end with a promise of a callback. That callback eventually comes from other employees who, again, don’t know the details of previous conversations, and the cycle starts over. In this way, I’ve met many nice people recently and I’m already looking forward to the next calls.

Do it yourself: Just stop by Ikea – they will help you there.

At least, that's been my experience so far.
