Hello,
I’ll start by mentioning that I’m new here and hope—based on my previous searches—that I’m not asking a question that has already been answered many times.
We have space in a Faktum kitchen (abstract white) for a cabinet or sideboard with a shallow depth, maximum 30 cm (12 inches). The usual Faktum cabinets are too deep, so I had the (unusual?) idea to use a low Billy shelf and fit it with Faktum doors.
Has anyone done this before?
I understand that I would need to drill extra holes for the hinges and that the height won’t be a perfect match—using a 70 cm (28 inches) door would leave an open shelf space above or below, which isn’t an issue for me.
I would appreciate either a “No problem, go ahead” or a “Definitely don’t do it,” or anything in between.
Thanks.

But melamine coating is kind of pointless.
If moisture gets in, it penetrates at the gap between the coated surfaces and the edge banding.
That’s exactly where the hot melt adhesive is, and that’s where the coating then comes off the board.
I’ve seen this happen often, not just with Ikea furniture.
That’s probably why I’ll go with Hemnes when I redecorate my bathroom...

The bathroom furniture isn’t melamine-coated either...Actually, some of it is (FULLEN, Godmorgon, ...).
