Hello!

In my introduction, I already mentioned that I am planning to get an IKEA kitchen in the near future.

I am particularly interested in the Edserum fronts.

I also have a few questions:

1. Can I keep the carcasses of my old kitchen and replace the doors and (small narrow) drawers with larger IKEA drawers? (My base cabinets are between 40-60cm (16-24 inches) wide depending on the cabinet and all are 60cm (24 inches) high.)
2. I have seen in the inspiration pictures that usually, there is a drawer base cabinet under the sink. The top drawer cannot fully open because of the sink’s depth, or how does that work?
3. Are handles, rails, etc., included in the price, or do they cost extra?
4. What makes more sense? Fitting new Edserum drawers/doors to old carcasses or removing the old kitchen and installing a completely new kitchen?

Some information about my kitchen space:

-I am single and don’t really need a huge family kitchen.
-I have a rather small, square open-plan kitchen with a balcony where I can also sit (like with a couch and table, not just a small eating area). In theory, I could also use the space as a living room with a kitchenette. The downside is that the space is only about 10-12 square meters (108-129 square feet) in size.

-Currently, I have a 25-year-old kitchen unit, brand unknown, oak veneer, bought secondhand.
*The kitchen is corner-shaped, but the tiled backsplash is designed for a single-line kitchen.
-I am looking for a single-line kitchen with a length of max. 3.00m to 3.16m (9 ft 10 in to 10 ft 4 in).
-Appliances are available:
*Oven and cooktop are separate
*Refrigerator 60cm (24 inches) wide x 90cm (35 inches) high
*Large microwave (which I rarely or never use)
*1 dishwasher that I cannot use due to lack of a separate water connection
*Sink with draining board and faucet

Existing cabinets from left to right:

BASE CABINETS

1x tall cabinet with 3 compartments for fridge and oven (I currently use the top for food storage, but I think the top compartment is meant for a freezer.)
1x base cabinet with 5 narrow drawers
1x large corner cabinet with cooktop (pots, pans, casserole dishes, etc. are stored inside, unfortunately no carousel) ---> Because of the depth of the corner cabinet, there is an unused dead space in height.
1x door cabinet 60cm (24 inches) wide
1x dishwasher 60cm (24 inches) wide
1x door cabinet 40cm (16 inches) wide
Empty space on the far right (where the trash bin is located)

WALL CABINETS (do not reach the ceiling)
1x door cabinet with 3 shelves 60cm (24 inches) wide
1x narrow open shelf
Empty space / dead zone (above the corner base cabinet)
1x door cabinet with 3 shelves 60cm (24 inches) wide
1x double door cabinet with glass doors
1x door cabinet with 3 shelves 60cm (24 inches) wide

Maybe you have some layout and design tips and can answer my questions.

Best regards, Romi

Hello,

Regarding point 1: If the cabinets are not made of solid wood, replace everything. The drill holes are different, so you would need to drill completely new holes for everything with exact precision.
Regarding point 2: At the sink, there is only a panel or a composite drawer front at the top, which is attached only at the bottom to a drawer unit.
Regarding point 3: Everything is separate—handles, drawers, hinges, shelves, fronts... The best approach is to review the buying guide carefully.

A separate water connection for the dishwasher is almost never required. You only need an angle valve with a dishwasher connection on the cold water supply. The drain connects to the sink’s trap. There are usually connection points provided there.
