Hello.

Two weeks ago, I installed my Domsjö sink into the worktop. I used the supplied sealing compound and additionally applied some sanitary silicone in places because the thick sealing compound did not fully close the joint everywhere.

The problem: The consistency of the Ikea sealing compound is the same as it was two weeks ago—soft, but thick and sticky like old chewing gum. Is this normal? If so, what is the recommended method for removing the excess sealing compound?

Cutting or wiping it off is definitely not an option...

Thank you very much for your advice!

Best regards,
Markus

Hello,

the sealant actually stays as it is. Why? No idea. I suppose it remains more flexible and durable this way. Silicone or acrylic eventually harden, become crumbly, or shrink, and therefore no longer seal properly. Just try to pick out the leftover residue or push it back as much as possible. You should avoid using a knife, as you might damage the countertop.

Best regards
