ᐅ Ikea Billy bookcase in black-brown

Hello everyone,

I have a question about the black Billy shelf. It can no longer be found on the website, and I was about to order some more. Instead, there are now versions in an outdated brown and in gray?!

My question is whether the black shelf is no longer being sold or if a new collection is coming out. If it’s the latter, is the shade at least the same? It would look strange if, for example, additional shelves for the previously purchased units had a different color tone.

In Germany, the IKEA Billy bookcase is no longer available in black-brown. The Billy bookcase is still sold in the Netherlands and Austria.

Thanks for the information! I also read on a bargain website that these were apparently heavily discounted at furniture stores earlier this month... I’m quite impressed. It doesn’t seem like they’re planning to release a new version, at least not in black? Apparently, you can’t order the Finnby online either. Well, I’ll just return the other shelves then. They’re no use to me anymore.

EDIT: One more question, which probably fits better in another sub-forum, but I didn’t want to start a new thread. I saw that you can buy the Besta carcass and shelves separately, and this combination would still work as a replacement for the black-brown Billy shelf unit. Does anyone know if the black-brown color is the same or at least “very similar” for both products? Otherwise, I’ll order them right away before they get discontinued as well.

To me, it all looks pretty much the same, but I don’t like dark brown either.
Take a look at the original. Maybe you simply don’t like the hollow cardboard panel construction of BESTA.
