Yesterday we spent a lot of time at IKEA planning a sideboard for our bedroom. It was supposed to accommodate our new 55" Sony TV. We invested a lot of time and received thorough and proper advice on site. However, in the end, we decided against it.
Two reasons: The TV wall mount designed to fit the cutout in the TV unit is only compatible with IKEA TVs and definitely won’t work with other brands – this was repeatedly confirmed by the staff … 😱
And Besta is not wood at all, but just paper and air, as we were also told several times by the IKEA advisors …
Okay! I want furniture made of wood or at least particleboard, and I fear I’m just no longer compatible with IKEA. Just like a Sony, Samsung, LG, Philips, and so on TV is not compatible with IKEA’s TV wall mount.

IKEA-Experte15 Aug 2015 22:09That has always been the case with BESTA. The top panels are made of hardboard, and where the holes are, there are strips of particleboard. In between, there are cardboard honeycombs, similar to those found in a basic interior door.
That’s true, as my predecessor already mentioned. It has always been like that and it’s not a big deal. I also put together a TV wall using Besta and am very satisfied (despite some gaps and papers).
With its customization options (front panels, carcasses, drawers, open compartments, glass cover plates), Besta offers a selection that is hard to match. In terms of price, you won’t find anything comparable that offers such flexibility.
Other TVs (not only IKEA ones) also fit the Uppleva mount. You just need to be a bit handy and make a VESA adapter plate yourself. Then you can attach practically any TV without any problem.
