Hello everyone, I am currently assembling my Ikea Besta furniture and facing the challenge of organizing the many cables running behind it in a neat and efficient way. My goal is not only to achieve a visually clean look but also to address practical aspects such as strain relief, easy identification of individual cables, and, of course, safety to avoid damaging or overheating any cables. My question to you is: What methods and tools do you use to organize cables behind Besta furniture in a structured and space-saving manner? Are there any special tips or recommendations for securing, hiding, or sorting cables without compromising functionality? I look forward to your advice and experiences!

Hello gison, that is a very sensible question, especially since Ikea BESTA furniture is often used as TV or media units, which results in many cables. I always try to establish basic order with the following steps:

- First, I sort the cables according to their function, such as power, HDMI, audio, etc., because this keeps things clearer.
- Then I use cable ties or hook-and-loop straps that can be easily adjusted and provide a secure hold without damaging the cables.
- Behind the BESTA furniture, I also attach cable channels or flat cable clips, which are often self-adhesive – this way, the cables don’t hang loose and are neatly guided along the back panel.
- It’s also important not to bundle cables too tightly to avoid overheating or kinking.

An alternative is cable boxes where power strips and similar items can be hidden if you have a shelf free for this purpose. Overall, I would regularly check whether all cables are truly needed long term to reduce cable clutter.

Hope this helps you!

I agree and would add: don’t forget cable ducts or cable channels, as they provide extra stability. Also, use short cables whenever possible – there’s nothing worse than running unnecessarily long cables through furniture.

I find this topic really important because I used to often feel that there was a real tangle of cables behind my BESTA cabinets. It actually stressed me out since I was afraid of damaging a cable or not being able to quickly find the right connection in an emergency.

This advice helped me a lot and was truly eye-opening. By now, I have organized all cables with Velcro cable ties and make sure not to compress them too much. Additionally, I installed several small cable clips behind the furniture to keep the cables in place without having to pull on them constantly.

Sometimes I wonder if IKEA could include more practical features, such as built-in cable management channels within the furniture, to organize cables from the start. That way, this “retroactive chaos” wouldn’t happen in the first place.
