Hello everyone, I recently purchased the IKEA BESTÅ system and am looking for an effective solution to prevent scratches on my parquet floor from the furniture’s legs or feet. Although the legs are quite sturdy, I am concerned that long-term pressure and movement could damage the surface.

My main question is: what practical and sustainable methods do you know of or recommend to protect the legs or feet of the BESTÅ system from scratches? Which materials, pads, or techniques are particularly suitable, especially considering that the furniture is sometimes moved?

I look forward to tips, experiences, and possibly recommendations for specific products that have proven effective in practice.

If you want to move your piece of furniture from time to time, you can place a thin plastic sheet under the felt layer as an additional buffer zone for movement.

Exactly, regarding Hannes' recommendation: I have had good experiences myself with felt furniture pads combined with thin plastic discs.

A few additional notes:

- Felt pads are indeed standard and their effectiveness has been confirmed many times in practice.
- For oiled hardwood floors, you should be careful not to use materials that are too rough, as they might absorb oil and darken over time.
- There are also silicone glides available that slide very well on smooth surfaces while providing protection.
- It is also important to consider the weight of the BESTÅ, because with heavier furniture, thin felt layers can get compressed and lose their protective effect.

For your setup, I recommend a medium-thickness felt pad version, which can additionally be coated with sanitary silicone to prevent abrasion.

Wow, so many great tips here! I simply equipped my BESTÅ legs with felt pads and can only say: absolutely excellent! I have been using these for over three years, even on very sensitive laminate flooring. It is important to regularly check the pads and replace them if needed – this keeps the floor scratch-free! Really great, I can only recommend it to you!

For occasional moving, I recommend felt pads with a durable self-adhesive backing combined with rubberized coasters. The latter help distribute the load and protect the floor from concentrated pressure points.

Additionally, I suggest placing a thin protective mat made of embossed plastic under the entire piece of furniture. This prevents abrasion and especially protects sensitive hardwood floors.

This is an important practical detail I want to emphasize: regular inspection and replacement of felt pads are essential to prevent permanent scratches.

Additionally, the adhesive on the pads should not leave any residue on the floor, which is especially important for oiled hardwood flooring.

Additionally, I would like to mention that using felt pads with a higher density significantly improves durability and protection. Cheap versions wear out quickly and can even cause scratches if the protective layer becomes brittle over time due to frequent use.

It is also helpful to regularly check all points of contact between the feet and the floor and remove any dirt, as dirt particles act like abrasives.
