Hello everyone,

I am currently setting up an Ikea BESTÅ sideboard in my living room. Unfortunately, the floor there is not completely level – there is a slight slope or minor unevenness. My question is: how can I level my BESTÅ furniture so that it stands securely and does not wobble?

I have already considered placing felt pads or small wooden shims underneath, but I would like to know if anyone has experience specifically with BESTÅ and can offer more precise tips on how to best align the individual components.

Information about the feet of the unit and any adjustable parts would also be helpful. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hello, I can add to the previous tips: The adjustable feet from Ikea are usually sufficient for small unevenness up to about 1 cm (0.4 inches).

For larger height differences or slopes, I recommend the following:

- Assemble the furniture before final assembly and adjust the feet
- Place small wooden wedges or non-slip felt pads under the feet as well
- A waterproof plywood board as a base can also help if the floor is very uneven

Especially with BESTÅ, stability and continuous contact with the floor are important to evenly distribute the load. This keeps the furniture in shape and prevents it from tipping.

Solar thermal system on uneven ground? Adjust the screw feet and, if necessary, use wedges. Wood or plastic, the main thing is stability and no risk of slipping. Use a base or pad if needed.

I wonder if the furniture could be stabilized better by building a continuous, solid base or by considering construction measures on the floor.

Basically, a continuous base is a very practical and long-lasting solution for uneven floors. It not only provides stability and even load distribution but also prevents shifting slopes from putting long-term stress on the connections of the BESTÅ system.

In practice, rectangular panels made of MDF or plywood with an appropriate thickness (at least 12 mm (0.5 inch)) are recommended. These can be fixed to the floor using non-slip felt pads or anti-slip material. The furniture then stands entirely on the panel, which rests on the floor.

While this solution is more complex than simply using wedges or adjustable feet, it significantly improves long-term durability. Alternative floor adjustments are often not an option, especially in rental apartments.

Additionally, all feet should be adjusted on this base, as minimal unevenness can still occur.
