ᐅ Ikea Besta – How Can I Organize the Interior Drawers Efficiently?

Hello everyone,

I recently bought an Ikea Besta shelving unit and now face the challenge of organizing the inner drawers effectively. My main question is how to best structure the inside of the drawers to both make efficient use of storage space and keep things organized so that I can quickly find what I’m looking for.

The drawers are relatively deep and wide, which makes it difficult for me to find a good division. For example, I would like to store small everyday items like cables, remote controls, batteries, and similar small parts separately from larger objects.

What I am especially interested in: Do you use dividers, organizing boxes, or special inserts? How do you manage to make even hidden corners useful? Which concepts have proven practical in daily use and which ones haven’t?

I look forward to your tips and experiences!

Hey DEOKLA!

I’m really enthusiastic about the various ways to use Besta drawers! ✨ For example, I made my own small compartments out of sturdy cardboard, which allows for a lot of creativity! ?

In addition, a system with color-coded boxes and small labels makes tidying up and refilling much easier. This creates complete clarity and removes the guesswork about where things belong.

I highly recommend not overloading the drawers all at once, as it can quickly become overwhelming. Organizing is actually fun and saves time later. Feel free to experiment and make it your own project! You’ve got this! ??

Use transparent plastic boxes in various sizes and slide them into the drawer. This way, you can immediately see what is inside and keep different categories separated. I rarely use dividers because they are less flexible.

I recommend drawer inserts made of wood or plastic that can be arranged freely. This prevents small items from sliding around. Additionally, smaller compartments are better than one large continuous space.

Also, I wonder if we question the issue of “hidden corners” enough.

That’s an important point you bring up. Especially with larger drawers, there are often dead spaces at the back that I don’t use well at all – and then things end up there that I can’t find anymore.

I think a flexible system with modular dividers makes sense, ideally allowing you to pull out or better access these areas, for example with small inserts that can be removed.

How do you handle this in everyday use? Do you prefer fixed dividers or removable containers? And do you have any tips for quick access to the “back” areas?

Thanks for your previous tips—I’ll try all this out and keep you updated!
