Hello everyone, I am currently working on better organizing my small apartment and am relying heavily on Ikea Besta shelving systems to make the most of the available storage space. My specific question is: How can I best optimize space usage in small apartments by using BESTA furniture? I am interested not only in suggestions for arranging and integrating them into various living areas but also in tips for combining them with additional storage solutions, making use of corners or narrow niches, and information about any available extensions or accessories for BESTA that are particularly useful for small spaces. I am looking for comprehensive and well-thought-out approaches that truly help maximize the functional use of the available space while keeping it comfortable and inviting. Thanks in advance for your ideas and recommendations!

What types of lighting or lighting systems have you used with BESTA?I prefer using LED strips that can be attached behind the shelves or under the shelf boards. They provide even, indirect lighting that creates a cozy atmosphere and highlights the shelving. There are also surface-mounted modules with motion sensors, which work well for entrance areas.
For easy installation, I recommend ready-made LED kits with plug connectors, so you avoid complicated wiring. Make sure you have power outlets nearby or use a power strip with enough space.

How do you handle sloped walls, for example?Sloped walls are a challenge. BESTA itself does not offer special angled modules, so many people combine shorter shelves with open spaces underneath. Alternatively, shallow open shelving can be placed against the sloped wall to keep it as functional as possible. Custom cuts (for example, of additional tables or inner shelves) are another option to make better use of the space.
I think a nice standard solution is to combine BESTA with wall-mounted cabinets. This is especially advantageous in small apartments because it keeps the floor area clear and makes the room feel larger.
By using matching boxes and baskets, you get plenty of storage without cluttering the visual space.
Another tip: Choose colors that add depth to the room, such as light tones, and perhaps use an accent color for individual doors or visible surfaces. This adds dynamics to the room and creates a fresh feel.

If you also use suitable boxes and baskets, you get a lot of storage space without making the area look cluttered.I feel the same way. Old cardboard boxes often look messy, while boxes with a uniform appearance create order.
At first, I was worried about the typical IKEA look, but with small details, matching handles, and self-adhesive films, BESTA units can be made attractive and personalized.
With a bit of creativity, you can also experiment and turn the space into a real place to relax and feel at home.

For additional context: My room has an area of about 12 square meters, a window on the short side, and a sloped ceiling covering roughly a quarter of the wall surface.Considering the room’s characteristics, I recommend accurately measuring the sloped ceiling and incorporating it with a custom-made cut (possibly through kitchen adjustments from IKEA or similar carpentry). BESTA units can be used modularly, but sloped walls limit standard construction methods.
Additionally, in areas under the slope, it’s better to use open shelving with shallow depth and closed storage space in the higher sections. This helps keep the room functional.
Height variations or tiered shelving could also visually enhance the space and create a dynamic design.
