Hello everyone, I recently bought an IKEA Besta sideboard and now want to replace the existing handles with new ones. My question is: What is the best way to attach these new handles to the fronts myself? I have already noticed that the Besta fronts have pre-drilled holes, but I’m unsure if I can simply screw on the new handles or if there is something else I need to consider, such as drilling or screw length. I would also like to know if any special tools are required or if a simple screwdriver is sufficient. I would appreciate any tips on preparation and aligning the handles so that everything fits neatly and securely. Thanks in advance for your help!

Installing new handles on IKEA Besta fronts is relatively straightforward, as long as the handles fit the pre-drilled holes. Basically, you should keep the following points in mind:

- Check the hole spacing of the existing drill holes, as not all handles are compatible.
- Choose screws that match the thickness of the fronts; often shorter screws are needed.
- For installation, a Phillips screwdriver is usually sufficient; a cordless drill can save time but should be used carefully.
- If necessary, use a mounting ruler or template to align the handles precisely.

It is important not to tighten the screws too much to avoid damaging the fronts. If new holes are required, a drill with a small bit would be useful.

If the new handles match the hole spacing, you can simply fasten them with the supplied screws. A screwdriver is sufficient. Be careful with the screw length and thickness.

The best method is usually to remove the fronts, align the handles, and then attach them using screws of the exact right length. Anything else feels a bit half-done. But honestly, IKEA handles are often quite awkward in shape, aren’t they? So precise alignment might not be worth the effort – the main thing is that they hold securely. It only becomes tricky if you need to drill new holes. Then the question is: do you want to fill the old holes or just buy entirely new fronts?

Remove the front panel, attach the handle, use appropriate screws, and tighten securely. A screwdriver is sufficient.

This is a key point. The Besta fronts are generally quite thin, so the screws must precisely match the thickness to avoid damaging the back side.

Additionally, I recommend measuring the distance and depth of the drill holes with a ruler or digital caliper before assembly. This helps prevent handles from being installed crooked or too loose.

If you want to be on the safe side, a small drop of glue under the screw can help prevent loosening from use without damaging the furniture.
