Hello everyone, I am currently facing the task of assembling an Ikea Besta shelving unit without the included assembly instructions. I have already unpacked the furniture and sorted the individual parts, but the connection techniques and the assembly sequence are not entirely clear to me. Are there any users here who have experience assembling the BESTA system by heart or tips on how to proceed systematically without instructions? I am especially interested in how to correctly position the back panel and ensure that the shelves don’t slip out afterwards. Thank you very much for your help!

Assembling without instructions can sometimes really feel like working on a puzzle with missing pieces ?. But with Besta, the connections are usually quite intuitive if you correctly match the dowels and screws. Tip: Arrange the parts as they will stand later; this helps you figure out where each piece belongs. And before screwing everything together, double-check that all screws are loose enough for adjustments – this helps avoid rework!

Do not install the back panel too early. First, complete the main frame, then position and either nail or glue the back panel. Otherwise, you might not be able to properly secure the shelves afterward.

It is important that the back panel is installed last, otherwise it will block the other components during assembly.
I can only confirm that. Always fix the back panel last, then everything holds perfectly.

With or without instructions, the BESTA system can definitely give your brain a workout 😄. My tip: Create a workspace that is large enough and always proceed in chronological order – first the frame, then the shelves, and finally the back panel. And if you get stuck somewhere, often taking a small step back and staying calm helps. You can do it, it’s really not rocket science!
