Hello everyone,

I own several Besta cabinets from Ikea and would like to retrofit the doors with soft-close dampers to make closing quieter and smoother. Does anyone have experience with how to install such soft-close mechanisms on the doors afterwards?

What is important to me:
- Which type of dampers is suitable for Besta doors (movement dampers, hinge dampers, or door dampers)?
- What is the exact step-by-step process for installation or assembly?
- Are there any specific challenges or mistakes to avoid?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I can only confirm the points made here. If you retrofit dampers, follow these guidelines to ensure everything fits properly and no damage occurs:

- Use appropriate screw lengths that do not penetrate through the panel wall.
- Mark the holes precisely using the template or measuring tape to avoid drilling incorrect holes.
- Use a small cordless drill with low speed to prevent splitting the wood.

Disassembly is easy, as mentioned before, leaving only holes behind. This means changes are reversible and can be done without much effort.

If you have worked with Besta furniture before, you are probably familiar with the materials that make this construction durable.

I recently upgraded my BESTA doors and I’m really happy with the results! The soft-close dampers make a huge difference—no more slamming, and everything feels much higher quality.

My advice: definitely prioritize quality. Cheap no-name dampers don’t last long. A set from a reputable manufacturer worked perfectly for me and was easy to install.

So go ahead, it’s a great upgrade!

Exactly right. It’s better to buy good quality once than to have to keep replacing them.
