Hello everyone, I recently bought an IKEA Besta sideboard and now want to install important child safety locks before our little ones discover the doors. Since the Besta system is quite versatile with its various door and drawer options, I am wondering which type of lock is best suited to childproof the doors without having to deal with complicated mechanisms every time. Does anyone have experience with which child safety locks work best for IKEA Besta, whether there are specific products for this or if universal solutions are better? Any tips on installation or long-term use would also be greatly appreciated.
I also have magnetic locks installed inside and can only say: great solution! No fiddling on the outside, no annoying attachments. Simply open it with the magnetic key, and the child? No chance against the cool cabinet guard 😉 The only tip: don’t lose the magnetic key! But hey, the little one usually gets tired so quickly that you end up pulling them out of the cabinet before they manage to open the door. Perfect if you want to avoid any rattling noise.

The only trick: don’t lose the magnetic key! That’s the crucial point! Magnetic “child safety locks” often feel more like a puzzle for adults than real protective barriers. Children quickly learn to find weaknesses. Personally, I’m not a fan of these half-baked solutions that only create an illusion of safety. In my opinion, traditional mechanical locks are better, even if they look less appealing. With them, you invest in real security, not just an illusion.
