Hello everyone,
I’m really frustrated. I spent half of Sunday trying to install two drawers sized 60x40cm (24x16 inches) using the push-to-open system. But the closing mechanism just doesn’t work. The closing system didn’t look very reliable even in the IKEA store. I’m not exactly clumsy and thought it would be fine.
I found a comparison video online:

I saw exactly the same problems both in the IKEA store and now at home.
Who else has struggled with this, and how did you solve it? The owner of the video managed to get it working somewhat by using hammers. But that can’t be the solution. I’m considering installing handles instead of the push-to-open system and using the soft-close mechanism.
Best regards,
Dennis

IKEA-Experte1 Aug 2016 12:36The rails are simply rubbish. Unfortunately, the Inreda full-extension slides are no longer available. They were very high quality. Even used, I would prefer them over the current drawer slides.
Yes, I am familiar with this problem... And the worst part is that these drawer slides still have a big "Made in Germany" label on them. I have two drawers with the push-to-open system in my TV wall units and lowboards. It took me a very long time to get them to work properly, but fortunately they have been functioning well ever since. After hours of trying, I adjusted the height of the drawer and suddenly the opening and closing worked perfectly. But basically, this push-to-open system is just rubbish. It’s a shame because it’s actually a nice concept for handle-free installation.
Much later, I bought a 180cm (6 feet) Besta cabinet for the bedroom and wanted to use the handleless system again, meaning drawers and glass doors without handles. Despite two exchanges and going back and forth, I couldn’t get the push-to-open system for the drawers to work properly. Exactly the same issue as shown in the video here. In the end, I switched to soft-close runners with handles. But even with the soft-close systems, there are problems. I had to replace a rail here because after a short time, the drawer would no longer close evenly or fully on one side. It’s just complete rubbish, really a shame! I don’t understand why IKEA hasn’t improved this.
