Hello everyone, I am currently planning a DIY renovation using the IKEA BESTÅ system and want to create an illuminated shelving unit. My goal is to evenly light each individual shelf, preferably with LED strips that are easy to install and later easy to maintain. Does anyone have experience with the best way to mount the LED strips, which power supply and switches are recommended, and how to cleverly hide the cables without negatively affecting the design? LED strips with a self-adhesive backing work best for the BESTÅ. For the power connection, I would use a 12V power supply, which is more than sufficient. It’s best to run the cables inside through the back panel and secure them with cable clips. You can use an inline switch or a remote control switch.
Mega project! Installing warm white LED strips worked really well for me and makes the shelf feel very cozy 🙂 It’s best to use a dimmable controller so you can adjust the brightness individually.
