We are planning to buy the IKEA Backabro sofa with chaise lounge. There are two beige upholstery options:

Tygelsjö beige for €599:
Risane Natur for €799:

The only apparent difference seems to be the upholstery fabric:

Upholstery for sofa bed with chaise lounge:
Tygelsjö: Overall composition: 65% polyester, 35% cotton
Risane: Overall composition: 53% linen, 47% viscose

My question:
How does the different fabric composition affect daily use (linen/viscose versus polyester/cotton)?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

Previously, one of the fabrics was said to be non-washable (if I remember correctly). That is no longer the case. A few months ago at an IKEA store, the salesperson implied that the cheaper option was better. However, I didn’t follow up on this because we hadn’t yet decided on the Backabro (we were initially considering the Vilasund).

Could someone help me with this decision?

Does anyone own a Backabro sofa, regardless of color or fabric, and can share whether they are satisfied with it?

Hello!
I just assembled an Ikea Backabro. It actually went quite well.
I only have one fabric piece left over and I can’t figure out what it’s for.
It’s related to the seat/bed mattress, and I’m looking for an IKEA fan (owner of this sofa) who can tell me something about it, meaning installation, use, etc.
Unfortunately, the illustrations don’t seem to cover this, in my opinion! 😳
I appreciate any help.

Best regards, walterhein

I have now figured out the purpose and use of this mysterious fabric piece on my own.
It is basically a protective cover that is used—or can be used—when converting the sofa into a bed, if desired!
When the slatted frame is pulled out and the cushions are removed, you will find on the lower part of the backrest cover two halves of a zipper, one on the left and one on the right.
The protective cover itself also has a zipper half at each end (left and right).
These zippers are used to attach the protective cover to the backrest cover.
Next, the seat/bed mattress is unfolded, and the back cushions are laid flat between the backrest and the mattress on top of the slatted frame. The protective cover is then pulled over the cushions and the mattress, and the end of the mattress is tucked into a specially designed pocket at the end of the protective cover.
The result: a lying surface measuring 120cm x 200cm (47 inches x 79 inches), covered with a tightly fitted protective cover!

Note: This protective cover and its use/application are not shown in the provided illustrations!

I am now a fan of the Ikea Backabro. A very nice and practical sofa bed!

We had our sofa assembled by the delivery service, so I wasn’t able to help with that.

Judging by the dimensions, do you have the two-seater?

Because with our sofa with chaise lounge, the protective cover for the sleeping area is secured at the back with snap fasteners and at the front with elastic bands around the corners—so there’s no zipper.

In general, I can say that after 1.5 years, we are very satisfied with it, and our guests have also slept very well on it.

Enjoy your sofa!

Thank you for your comment!
Yes, it is a two-seater and perfectly suited for our small two-room apartment.
The sleeping surface invites you to try it out, but I will leave that to our guests during the Advent season.
We are very happy with our latest addition!
