Hello,

we are currently renovating our newly purchased house (timber frame construction, built in 1979). The bathroom is being completely redone. It has already been fully gutted, and we already have a plan for how it should look.

It is a relatively dark room. There is natural daylight (one window opposite the door), but it faces north. Therefore, the choice of lighting plays a major role for us. Naturally, the choice of lighting is also linked to the design of the ceiling.

The shower will be on the opposite side of the light source, so it will be particularly dark there.

Originally, the bathroom had a standard ceiling panel covering. The battens were directly fixed onto a wallpapered and painted drywall board (probably added at a later stage). If I’m correct, beneath the drywall board (as in most of the house) there is a chipboard panel. These chipboard panels are nailed to the ceiling joists.

We have removed the panels and battens. During the renovation, we have also exposed the walls (especially where pipes will be installed). We will not leave it exposed like this in the future, so I want to make the right decision regarding the ceiling design now.

Our current plan is to fix battens to the ceiling and attach green drywall panels to them. Then wallpaper and paint. (=> Option 1) Alternatively, if possible, to reinstall ceiling panels. For this we would mount the green drywall panels directly onto the existing ceiling, then attach a batten framework to which we would fix the ceiling panels. (=> Option 2) Both options would allow flexible installation of lighting fixtures in the ceiling (LED spotlights or similar).

What would you recommend for a wet room? What experiences have you had?
