Hello everyone, I recently bought a Kallax shelf unit from IKEA, and it is now placed on a stone floor inside my apartment. My question is: Is this generally not an issue, or could it cause problems in the long term? I am particularly concerned about stability, possible scratches on the floor, and how the stone floor might affect the shelf in terms of moisture or temperature. Has anyone had experience with this or any tips on what to watch out for? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I had my Kallax placed on tiles with carpet underneath. It looked good, but sometimes the shelf would shift slightly when setting it down. This is not ideal for stability. If you choose to use carpet, make sure it is not too thick.

Felt pads on stone floors are usually the better choice.

Okay, thanks for this advice. I will get some felt pads.

I will keep that in mind, as I don’t want the shelf to be unstable.

Does anyone know of a material or brand of felt pads that is particularly suitable for a Kallax shelf on hard floors?

I use self-adhesive felt pads from "SuperGrip". They adhere well to Kallax and protect the stone floor. They are easy to install and simple to replace.

Felt pads or rubber underlays both work well. The important thing is that they are wide enough and do not slip.

Thank you for your advice. I have now ordered felt pads and will install them as soon as they arrive.

I will be happy to get in touch again if I have further questions or any updates to share. So far, the discussion has been very helpful!

You're welcome! I'm curious to see how it turns out for you. When you move the shelf, always be careful not to damage the felt pads. 🙂
