Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the huge task of planning the kitchen for our new apartment. Since the price and other factors suit us well, we have decided on a kitchen from IKEA. After researching the topic and overcoming the first problems (for example, there is less than 80cm (31 inches) of space on each side of the cooktop, but it can’t be helped), I still have some questions despite this great forum, which maybe someone here can answer for me.

Is it more practical to order in-store or online? Are there any advantages or disadvantages? What would be the best approach? Is there someone who checks the plan again?

Online, I read something about a free plan review, but elsewhere I saw a charge of 149€ (about $160), is that correct?

How does it work if I want the kitchen to be assembled professionally? Do I still have to pay for delivery, or do they gather everything themselves in the store before delivery?

What is the approximate average delivery time for a kitchen with assembly, without any extras?

Is it a problem if the dishwasher is two cabinets away from the sink and connection point, or would the drainage not work properly then?

Do IKEA appliances come with standard plugs?

According to IKEA, the oven and cooktop cannot be connected to the same outlet. Is this really true, even if there are two strain reliefs and separate fuses per phase?

Is there still enough space behind the cooktop if the cooker connection box sticks out 2–3cm (1 inch) from the wall?

I would really appreciate it if someone could answer a few of these questions.

Thank you very much in advance!

Hello,

Is it more sensible to order in-store or online? Are there any advantages or disadvantages? What should I do best, and can someone review it again??

Personally, I find it easiest to discuss and talk about things in person. But if you look around more carefully here, you should see that discussions can also evolve in this forum.

Is it a problem if the dishwasher is two cabinets away from the sink and connection, or would the drainage not work then?

Not a big problem, but the lines will need to be extended. You should check what the appliance manufacturer specifies. I also find it more practical if the dishwasher is near the sink. Sometimes you rinse something briefly under water before placing it in the machine, or at least scrape off leftovers into the trash bin, which is usually located in the cabinet under the sink.

IKEA appliance plug?

???

According to IKEA, the oven and cooktop cannot be connected to the same outlet; is that really the case even if there are two strain reliefs and separate fuses per phase?

If the connection box is designed for it, then it is possible. For example, manufacturers like Merten and ABL-Sursum offer suitable appliance connection boxes. I’m not sure if there is still a VDE regulation requiring a residual current device (RCD) or a circuit breaker that disconnects all phases simultaneously, but your trusted electrician should be able to connect it properly. Kitchen installers who only have a "cooker connection permit" might be overstrained or not fully authorized.

Is there still space behind the cooktop if the cooker connection box protrudes 2-3cm (approximately 1 inch) from the wall?

I don’t understand this. The cooktop is installed into the countertop; where would there even be space behind it?

The other questions are probably better answered by the IKEA experts here.

Hello,

Is it more practical to order in-store or online? Are there advantages or disadvantages? What would be best, and can someone look over it again??

Nine years ago, I planned and put together our kitchen as follows:

First, we took very accurate measurements, really at several heights with two people (sometimes the walls are not even, what fits at the top doesn’t fit at the bottom, sometimes there is the well-known visual kink) and experimented with the online planner at home.
Then, at Ikea, we measured all the cabinets we were interested in as precisely as possible, and recalculated everything again at home. We only had a tolerance of 2–5 cm (1–2 inches), meaning our two walls are between 3.12 and 3.15 meters (10 ft 3 in and 10 ft 4 in) wide (depending on where measured), and we installed cabinets of 3.10 meters (10 ft 2 in) each. It was tight, but the dimensions worked. At the kitchen studio, they only wanted to equip the walls with 3 meters (9 ft 10 in) cabinets and cover the rest with filler pieces.
Since we live near the Dutch border, where kitchens were generally more expensive then except for a few cabinets, we brought the cheaper ones from there and assembled them according to the measurements. It was only two cabinets, which ended up standing in our living room. The rest we ordered online in Germany.
At that time, no assembly service was available online, but we had checked with a local carpenter about their terms in case we couldn’t manage on our own.
One cabinet ordered online was missing a hinge, but it was delivered without issue later. Otherwise, everything was fine and complete.
Buying on-site lets you take the items home immediately, while online back then took almost two months.

Good luck with the mammoth project!

Ikea appliance plugs?

The current dishwashers are all from AEG/Electrolux, with a maximum water supply hose length of 3.9 m (13 feet) using AquaLock (accessory), and a maximum drainage hose length of 4 m (13 feet). AEG/Electrolux offers an extension set for the drainage hose. The pump cannot handle longer distances. Power extensions must not be made with multiple sockets; all power extensions must comply with the same standards and requirements as the original cable. So consult an electrician.

There is space behind the oven.
If two strain reliefs are present, it is possible, but not straightforward. If I remember correctly, VDE regulations do not allow two conductors (neutral and earth) on one terminal. I believe this is the issue where Ikea installers reach the limits of their authorization. So, an electrician is needed, as the IKEA expert already mentioned.
