Hello,

I bought a Hue Lightstrip and want to install it behind our TV cabinet and behind the sofa.

My question is, how would you attach it?

Just stick it directly to the back of the TV cabinet and sofa? Then the Lightstrip would shine directly onto the wall, so some light might be lost, right?

Or would you stick a self-adhesive cable duct to the TV cabinet or the wall behind the sofa and then attach the Lightstrip to that? That way the Lightstrip would shine fully upwards.

What would you recommend, and what could I use as an alternative to a self-adhesive cable duct? It should be as inexpensive as possible but still secure.

What exactly is the purpose of the LED strips? What do you want to achieve with them?
Honestly, I think placing them behind a lowboard that is up against the wall is pointless. The same goes for behind the sofa.

For example, I have some installed in channels on the sides of my custom-built TV wall, similar to Ambilight. My ex had some attached underneath the open shelves of their coffee table. The strips work well there too. Or installed along the bottom of the kitchen plinth, although personally I don’t find that very attractive since it tends to highlight dirt.

@nordanney The light strips are meant to provide indirect lighting.

Behind the sofa, there should be virtually invisible indirect lighting in the sofa area, and there should also be indirect lighting behind the lowboard so that the main lights don’t have to be turned on while watching TV.

Then just give it a try. Use adhesive tape like Tesa to attach it roughly. If you like it, either secure it properly or get a suitable channel.

There are countless variations and cover types available (depending on your preference, the light can be direct or diffused). The width of the strip fits perfectly (as mentioned, there are matching profiles for everything). A slightly angled installation behind the board would be my choice, for example.

@nordanney I was considering using a 90-degree PVC angle profile from the hardware store and attaching it to the lowboard with double-sided tape. This way, the light strip would shine directly upwards. If it’s attached to the lowboard, it would shine directly onto the wall.

I don’t need a diffused profile; the light strip is meant for indirect lighting in a concealed installation.

But would you use an angle so that the light strip shines partly towards the wall and partly upwards?

Yep, so the light is evenly directed half upwards and half towards the wall.

The profiles make your life much easier for very little money.
