Osram is discontinuing the cloud server operation for Lightify as of August 31, 2021.

In this particular case, it’s only somewhat problematic because the devices can mostly be connected to Hue gateways. However, this is a clear example for anyone who equips their home or new build (considering the lifespan of a house!) with such gimmicks simply because they look nice in advertisements and appear cheaper. Just imagine what would happen if, for example, Loxone ever decided to do something similar. But hey, we did warn you.

Fire away!

The system is based on Zigbee.
What exactly is proprietary about it?

I don’t see any problem; various software like openHAB, ioBroker, or even specific Zigbee hubs can still be used normally, right?!

I see the problem arising when the wiring is proprietary as well (by this I do not mean connectors, but essentials such as the number of conductors and network topology).

Man, what kind of issues must you have to start a thread here and basically mock everyone who doesn’t use KNX. Honestly, I find that much funnier than IKEA light bulbs in the living room.

Everyone, relax. This is almost worse than someone criticizing KNX.

Even if it might be a bit provocative, it’s about the principle. This is just a reminder to stay as manufacturer-neutral as possible when it comes to home automation systems.

Besides that, it’s often discussed here that you can do the same thing with some manufacturer-specific solutions based on KNX. Those can be affected too!

@WingVII The third season of 4 Blocks is currently only available on Sky; otherwise, it’s fine. But thanks for asking.
