Hello everyone!
I’m planning to build a house soon!
However, we are still not sure about the best and most cost-effective way to do it. We’ve already contacted the bank, and they would grant us a loan of about 120,000 euros (approximately $130,000). So that’s quite a limited budget for both the house and the land! That’s why it’s very important for us to build as economically as possible.
Is it cheaper to manage everything yourself and hire individual contractors, or is it better to work with an architect who organizes everything? Or maybe it would be best to go with prefabricated building components?
Thanks in advance!

Hello papi10,

The loan is one thing, the other is the equity you have saved up over the years, whether it’s in a savings account, building savings contract, etc.

Basically, you can say: doing your own work makes sense if a) you have the necessary DIY skills and b) the time (which is usually much more than expected) to invest. Another point is who handles the warranty? If you take care of everything yourself, you also have to ensure that all the different trades work smoothly together.

We built almost turnkey and would do it the same way again because this way you only have one point of contact regarding warranty claims.

Best regards
