Hello everyone,
I recently installed an IKEA Metod kitchen with the corresponding countertops and would like to clean the surface in a way that keeps its appearance fresh and intact for as long as possible. Since the Metod countertops are subjected to quite a bit of wear in everyday use, I’m particularly interested in which cleaning products and methods are recommended to avoid scratches, discoloration, or a dull surface.
I’m especially curious about:
- Are there any household remedies or cleaning products that should definitely be avoided?
- What is the best approach when stains occur (e.g., from food or oils)?
- Does anyone use special care products or sealants that enhance protection?
I look forward to your well-founded tips and experiences so I can keep my Metod countertops in top condition for the long term. Thanks in advance!

I noticed that aggressive scouring agents and harsh cleaners really don’t help; in fact, they do the opposite: the surface becomes dull and rough. I can only confirm that. At first, I struggled with it, so I often felt frustrated. The Metod surface is not as durable as I expected, especially when exposed to harsh chemicals.
Nowadays, I clean it only with warm water, a bit of mild dish soap, and a soft cloth. I think it’s important to dry the worktop thoroughly afterward – otherwise, water stains tend to soak in quickly.
Maybe this approach will help others here avoid frustration and keep the nice appearance.
Hello everyone,
I would like to add a few important tips that are often overlooked but significantly affect the long-term appearance of Metod panels:
- Cleaning:
- Never use aggressive deep cleaners, bleach, or abrasive cleaners. These can remove the protective layer and cause faster wear.
- Microfiber cloths are excellent because they are gentle and do not scratch the surface.
- Stains:
- To remove oil residues, I recommend using a mild dish soap with warm water applied with a soft sponge.
- Avoid using pure vinegar or lemon acid, as these can damage the surface.
- Long-term care:
- Occasionally, gently re-polishing with a product specifically designed for laminated surfaces can restore the protective film.
- Never use wood oil or wax! These do not absorb and leave stains.
In summary: The Metod countertop requires gentle cleaning with mild agents and regular drying to prevent water spots and damage. This way, the appearance stays beautiful over time.
