Hello,

I want to paint this ceiling white.
What is the best approach?

Sanding
Priming
Two coats of paint?

Or what do you suggest?

Thanks!

About 20 years ago, I painted a wooden slatted wall with latex paint and was absolutely impressed with the result. Based on that experience, about 5 years ago I repainted our self-built shoe cabinet (spruce wood) with regular latex paint from a hardware store, and I am once again very pleased. The paint works excellently on wood and adheres very well. Here’s a photo… Best regards, Steffi33.

To me, that looks more like a wood stain or varnish.

No, definitely not... it’s latex paint from the hardware store. I bought it myself and painted it. I even kept the container so I can remember the product. Best regards, Steffi33.

Okay, why did you specifically choose latex paint? Did it have any particular advantages?

The first time I tried this 20 years ago was purely by chance. I had some leftover paint (it was actually a satin finish wall paint from Dulux) and decided to apply it to the wooden paneling. Without sanding... just straight onto the raw wood. The result and the ease of application were so impressive that I would do it that way again. Using a roller and brush, it went on completely streak-free and provided full coverage. The surface became silky smooth and wipeable. Back then, 20 years ago, I didn’t want to use a solvent-based varnish, so that was the idea. Just give it a try! Best regards, Steffi33.
