Sounds like you’re starting to do what others have always done.

I hope you realize how cringe-worthy that sentence is.

But good that it’s working now.

I also wear clothes once and then wash them…

It was a discovery that surprised me as well when I started living with my wife...

That there are people who do not distinguish between outerwear and its level of dirtiness and underwear, but who literally never wear anything two or more times in a row without washing it first (except for jackets and coats).

Well, there may be good reasons for this, since some people do sweat a lot and then their outerwear is affected as well. But there are also people for whom that is not the case, yet they still aren’t used to doing it any differently.

I tolerate it, but in my mind, it seems incredibly extravagant.

To that, I can only reflexively shake my head and quote @Tolentino:

So, a new pajama every day? A new T-shirt/shirt every day? New jeans every day?
What about the famous jogging pants, aka sweatpants or lounge pants?
Towels after showering: used once to dry off a freshly cleaned body and then straight to the laundry?

Underwear is the only thing I wear once before washing. Otherwise, you pay attention to smell and visible dirt. Even after thinking about it for a while, I don’t understand the point of washing clothing that is stain-free and still smells good.

I just made this discovery here on the forum. I haven’t been this surprised in a long time.

Sorry if this sounds more offensive than I intend: How often do you wash? Who does the laundry in your household?

The washing machine probably does the washing, and afterwards the clothes go into the dryer. It’s much less effort than it sounds. I wash my clothes between jobs myself, and it takes me 20 minutes of active time until the suitcase is full again with fresh clothes for two weeks.

I first encountered the issue with towels back in school, during a ski trip in Carinthia in 10th grade.
A friend showered only once on the first or second day and not again afterwards. When I asked why he stopped showering, he said he only had one towel with him because there wasn’t enough space in his luggage for more, and he found it disgusting to use a towel multiple times since you rub it on bare skin.
I responded that after showering he should actually be relatively clean, so the towel wouldn’t be contaminated after just one use, and in contrast, not showering for a whole week was in my opinion (or rather my nose) just as disgusting—if not worse by several levels. He didn’t accept that argument.
I didn’t think much more about it and only mentioned this fact casually to his girlfriend. She didn’t like it very much. Honestly, I don’t know if it encouraged him to shower more, because shortly after that I caught an infection and was busy dealing with that myself—but at that point, I started looking more closely into the concept of karma. Even though I don’t really believe there is a metaphysical points system for personal actions, I decided that my impact on others should be as positive or at least neutral as possible. Regarding my friend, it’s debatable whether my little scheme had any positive long-term effect...

I wasn’t directly asked, but usually laundry is my wife’s responsibility, though I often help out. This is also the unspoken agreement that explains why I tolerate the aforesaid decadence. If laundry were mainly my task, I’d probably just fold some worn clothes neatly again in the laundry room without washing them.
However, I am mainly responsible for the kitchen and the dishes. We have similar issues there. Of course, I don’t expect dishes to be reused for several days.
But I do have to remind people fairly often to bring used dishes to the kitchen promptly and to rinse off really dirty ones sometimes.

Everyone doing their own laundry is a concept that in my opinion fits a shared flat more than a family, but hey, to each their own.

Edit: added an important “not”…
