Hello, I am new to the forum and my name is Ingo. I recently bought an older apartment building (about 40 years old), and soon the renovation/refurbishment will begin. First, I want to replace the gas boiler, which is over 25 years old, and the windows, which are 40 years old. One wall will probably need to be moved as well. I would like to insulate the radiator recesses, which are 18cm (7 inches) deep, with only 32cm (13 inches) wall thickness. Based on my measurements, I can move the radiator about 6-7cm (2-3 inches) into the room.
Now I am wondering what the best insulation material for the recesses would be since I want to avoid mold later on.
At first, I thought about using a 4-6cm (1.5-2.5 inches) wood fiber insulation board plus a drywall panel that I could glue inside the recess. Is this a good idea or should I avoid it? What other options are there?
Best regards,
Ingo
