ᐅ Handling natural stone slabs for a terrace?

Hi, a quick question for the pros: we had a terrace made of travertine installed by a company, with the slabs (30x60cm (12x24 inches)) laid on gravel. Do they now need to be brushed with quartz sand and then compacted again? Our terrace builder said this isn’t necessary and that he doesn’t have a plate compactor for such slabs anyway.

Good luck & thanks

How large is the terrace? 14k is quite significant, even with travertine.

We built the pool ourselves; it just needed to be framed.

Garden with oval pool, terrace with table set and parasol; red ball at the edge.

Floor plan: light gray floor with blue oval pool in the upper right area; dimensions 10m x 4.5m (33ft x 14.8ft).

WOW, he only wants to replace 2 to 3 tiles, for the rest... well, that happens, we should have set them in concrete then. And he believes that the quartz sand doesn't help at all now because I grouted the tiles. However, I think the tiles were laid so close together that the quartz sand won't fall through at all.

What do you do when the service provider partially blocks the process?

Our landscaping contractor said that fine gravel locks into the joints, reduces wobbling, and provides stability to the surface.
And sweep it well about 3-5 times, with intervals of 4 weeks.

We had our slabs installed tightly without joints. Even after several years, we are very satisfied with this approach.
