Hello everyone,
we have put together a Besta system for our daughter, where she will hopefully soon be able to do homework, draw, and work on other activities. Among other things, we bought the shelves measuring 128 x 60 x 40 cm (50 x 24 x 16 inches). However, we want to include drawers inside. Unfortunately, we only noticed during assembly that while the drawers are flush with the front, the shelves are not. This means that if I want drawers in the middle of a shelf unit with a shelf above them, there is a gap of about 1 cm (0.4 inches) between the drawer front and the shelf above when the drawer is closed. I find this quite unattractive…
I haven’t been able to find any longer shelves anywhere. Is it really possible that they don’t exist? Or are there other solutions? Thanks…
Good luck, GarNix

IKEA-Experte11 Nov 2014 16:24Hello, you need to use the metal sheets as floor supports, so the gap is at the back and the floor aligns with the drawer front at the front. You only have the choice between a gap at the back or a gap at the front.
This is also shown in the assembly instructions.

Thanks for the tip. However, I don’t really find a gap at the back any more appealing. I also did some additional searching yesterday and saw that similar questions have existed since 2009, and IKEA really hasn’t developed any alternative solutions? Like, for example, longer shelves? I find that quite unbelievable, and for me, it’s a significant flaw in IKEA’s image...
Good luck, GarNix

IKEA-Experte12 Nov 2014 12:59Additional article means additional costs. By the way, I read on Facebook that Besta will be discontinued in April.
