Hello, we have two of these low cabinets:

Wooden shelf with four open compartments on top and four drawers below.

Now I need a workspace, and this tabletop would fit perfectly:

White add-on desk attached to a large open shelving unit with compartments.

What is the best way to connect these two pieces? IKEA offers connectors like these, but they are only designed for attaching the tabletop to the interior compartments:

Two identical metal screw clamps with long threaded rods, arranged side by side.

I hope you have some ideas.

Best regards & thanks

That was also my first thought, perforated sheet metal, but there are many cavities inside the cabinet.

It might work at the very edge. However, there will then be a height difference between the Kallax and the tabletop.

This can be balanced with additional feet or pads.
However, I’m not sure if a perforated sheet metal will hold up well, considering there are already quite a few things on the table and I also want to work on it.

In furniture making, you can also create such planned joints using wooden dowels, etc. This means drilling into the joining surfaces and inserting wooden dowels. Due to the materials involved here, these would probably need to be larger in size and drilled deeper. Additionally, very precise work is required to avoid misalignment of the panel or a gap next to the shelf.
