Hello, we have two of these low cabinets:

Wooden shelf with four open compartments on top and four drawers below.

Now I need a workspace, and this tabletop would fit perfectly:

White add-on desk attached to a large open shelving unit with compartments.

What is the best way to connect these two pieces? IKEA offers connectors like these, but they are only designed for attaching the tabletop to the interior compartments:

Two identical metal screw clamps with long threaded rods, arranged side by side.

I hope you have some ideas.

Best regards & thanks

Are your shelves standing upright or lying down? And how are they positioned relative to each other?

A photo or sketch of the situation would be helpful.

From my experience, a countertop (whichever type) placed on a lying two-compartment unit provides a comfortable working height for me.
The Kallax is 77cm (30 inches) high when lying down, and with a 4cm (1.5 inches) countertop, it reaches a pleasant 81cm (32 inches) table height.

Sorry, that’s correct.

This is how I imagine it, but I don’t know how to securely connect the two parts together.

Simply screw two perforated metal sheets/metal plates against it from below?

@jansens You haven't drilled holes in Ikea products in places where they aren't meant to be, have you?

But with enough (4?) wood screws per side, there should be sufficient stability in the IKEA 'cardboard'.
