Hello experts!
We have the following problem to solve and would greatly appreciate your helpful comments on this topic:
1. Our neighbor’s house is 13cm (5 inches) higher than ours.
2. The distance between the end of our terrace and the neighbor’s house wall is 6.3m (21 feet), consisting of 4.3m (14 feet) on our garden and 2.0m (6.5 feet) on the neighbor’s garden.
3. We are wondering how to best address this height difference?
3.1 Using retaining walls (L-shaped concrete blocks) on the neighbor’s property
3.2 By “grading adjustment” as suggested by the neighbor’s landscaper
3.3 Or other options?

THANK YOU and best regards!
White modern house under construction, terrace with furniture; construction site, measurement lines 2.0 m and 4.3 m, sunny.

Why does nobody like L-shaped blocks?
Because they are unattractive? There is a reason why L-shaped blocks are typically placed facing the neighbor’s property 😉
Also, at 20cm (8 inches), this is clearly overkill since hardly any earth pressure builds up, and the whole situation can easily be improved later without losing much space. If you really want to secure it, I would use regular edging stones set in concrete.

Many thanks @kbt09 @Tolentino @hanghaus2023 @WilderSueden
We do not need/want any fences.
We have not yet discussed any other types of enclosure.
I like a narrow 5cm (2 inch) lawn edging.
What width and height would you choose or consider appropriate for this?

The curb is 20cm (8 inches) high; I would let 10cm (4 inches) of it protrude. Then plant a hedge, and that should be fine.

13cm (5 inches)? Don't ground settling naturally even out a garden bed on its own?!

I also have a slight slope towards the terrace. Certainly more than 13cm (5 inches). Nothing happens at all. The lawn easily absorbs the water. When it was just soil, water still ran up to the terrace, but since it’s green, never again. 😉
