Hello,

In our quote, the clay roof tiles listed are Creaton Magnun Anthracite.
I have tried to find out which quality segment these belong to, with only limited success.

I found 2-3 user reviews where there were issues, but 2 or 3 out of several thousand is not that many.
Google Shopping results show prices around 2€ per piece.

For comparison, I tried to look at tiles from an older competitor’s offer:
Röben Monza for about 1€ per piece and Creaton Titania for just over 2€ per piece.

Over the weekend, we plan to visit a few building material suppliers to get a better feel.
But they can also tell me a lot of things.

What criteria do you use to recognize good tiles?
How are the price segments generally divided?
Who has deliberately chosen certain tiles, what were the reasons, and what is your overall conclusion now?

Thank you.

We chose the Creaton Magnum in black engobed.

We searched for engobed clay roof tiles. Nothing else was ever an option.

The appearance was important to me, especially the shape of the tiles and how the entire roof would look with them. Ultimately, of course, the additional cost charged by the builder compared to standard concrete roof tiles was also a factor.

We have no negative experiences to report and have now used the same tiles for our garage as well.

Are there really still “good” and “bad” ones?

Take a look at Ziegeldach.de.
There you can find information about which DIN standards the roof tiles must meet.

I have an acquaintance who works in a building ceramics company and occasionally works as an expert for building damage in the areas of brick veneer facades and roofing. He said that the Röben roof tiles are not of good quality and that there are frequent material defects and damages. He was very impressed with Creaton. Since last week, we have had the Creaton Futura installed on our roof.

Okay, that sounds more in favor of Creaton.

We visited a building materials supplier recently who used to carry Creaton. According to them, they switched to Alegra about 15 years ago because of major quality issues. Even today, roofers reportedly still experience chipping caused by frost, and the company often resists warranty claims.

However, on the other hand, you have to consider that they are trying to sell their product. Also, this was 15 years ago.

So I would be more inclined to trust your reports.
