Hello everyone,

we want to redesign the dining area in our open-plan kitchen. Currently, we have a round table that seats four people, as shown in the picture. We want/need to expand it to accommodate up to six people.
However, we are not sure which type of table to choose (round or rectangular).
The space is quite tight, as you can see in the sketch with the measurements. On the left side of the image, you can also see that the countertop extends into the room. Below it is a cabinet with two doors that open towards the dining area (two doors, each 45cm (18 inches) wide). It stores items we don’t use daily, so the doors are only opened occasionally.

Do you have any ideas on how we should proceed here?

I look forward to your feedback!

And what is in this whole area? Perhaps a floor plan of the entire room would be helpful for advice.

Good point! I took a picture from a bit farther away.

Why not a round table with a leaf if you don’t always have six people at the table? My sister has one. I think it’s from IKEA.

I really like the idea of the extendable table. I think I’ll start looking for a similar-sized table to the one I currently have, but one that can also be extended just in case.

Hello everyone,
we have now decided on a table measuring 140 x 80 cm (55 x 31.5 inches). It will be placed against the back wall when it’s just the two of us with our two children. When we have guests, it can be pulled into the room so that seating is possible at the ends as well.

That’s our plan so far.

Thank you for your feedback! It has been very helpful in finding the (hopefully) right solution for us.
