Hello everyone,
we want to redesign the dining area in our open-plan kitchen. Currently, we have a round table that seats four people, as shown in the picture. We want/need to expand it to accommodate up to six people.
However, we are not sure which type of table to choose (round or rectangular).
The space is quite tight, as you can see in the sketch with the measurements. On the left side of the image, you can also see that the countertop extends into the room. Below it is a cabinet with two doors that open towards the dining area (two doors, each 45cm (18 inches) wide). It stores items we don’t use daily, so the doors are only opened occasionally.
Do you have any ideas on how we should proceed here?
I look forward to your feedback!

Possibly another bench along the long side. Benches take up less space because they don’t need to be pulled out to stand up. However, they are more difficult to climb in and out of.
Thanks in advance for the feedback.
Personally, I would be a fan of a round table, like the current one. The current table has a diameter of 105cm (41 inches). I have read that 120cm (47 inches) is suitable for six people. However, it will probably be very tight with a table of that size.
