Hello everyone, I am looking for helpful tips on how to reliably prevent damage during the transportation of the IKEA Brimnes range.

I am especially interested in which protective measures are effective, what packing techniques to pay attention to, and whether there are any particular issues to consider regarding the materials and construction of Brimnes.

Since the furniture is relatively large and made from pressed wood, I am concerned mainly about scratches, dents, or even breaks during transport. Does anyone have experience or well-founded advice to help avoid costly damage during delivery or self-transport?

Hey Kika7, great question! 😊 When it comes to BRIMNES, one thing helps above all: padding and a gentle touch.

- First, protect each individual part separately with bubble wrap or old blankets.
- Pack screws and small parts separately to prevent rattling and scratches.
- Use the side panels of the car to secure the furniture pieces.

A bit of care and maybe a playlist to reduce stress during loading will definitely help avoid any damage!

Hello Kika7, your question about preventing damage during the transportation of the IKEA BRIMNES is well chosen, as these case furniture pieces are often made of particleboard with a melamine coating, which can be prone to chipping.

I recommend the following structured approach:

- Before transport, cover all visible surfaces with protective film or foam.
- Protect corners and edges additionally with foam or cardboard edge guards, as these areas are particularly vulnerable.
- When loading, make sure no heavy objects are placed on the furniture.
- Transport the furniture parts lying down, since standing transport can pose a higher risk depending on the vehicle.
- Place padding materials like blankets or bubble wrap between the furniture pieces to prevent friction and impact damage.

Which mode of transport are you planning to use? That would help to tailor the advice further.

Thank you for the detailed suggestions! I plan to transport the items using a standard station wagon, with the cargo space expanded by removing the rear seats. The problem is that some parts are quite long and flat, so I’m not entirely sure about the optimal arrangement of the furniture inside the vehicle. Unfortunately, a van is not available to me.

Great question and a solid approach from bapar.

Regarding transport in a station wagon, here are some tips:

- Large parts should generally be laid flat, as this ensures the highest stability of the furniture panels and helps prevent tipping or falling over.
- Use non-slip mats or old rugs on the loading area to keep everything from shifting.
- Thick wool blankets or foam panels can act as padding between furniture pieces, especially around the edges.
- Always pack screws separately in small bags and store them securely within the vehicle.
- If possible, apply protective film in a way that it doesn’t slip during loading and unloading.

A packing or transport box for small parts is also recommended to avoid loss and scratches.

Important: Avoid putting unnecessary pressure on furniture surfaces with heavy luggage or boxes.

In summary, regarding the transport of IKEA BRIMNES:

- Always store and transport furniture flat to prevent warping.
- Apply protective film or suitable padding materials on all edges and surfaces.
- Secure the load in the vehicle using straps or non-slip mats to prevent movement.
- Avoid mechanical stress from heavy objects.

A systematic check of the transport conditions beforehand significantly reduces damage.

If unsure, it is advisable to conduct short test runs with less fragile items to optimize handling.
