Hello everyone, I am currently working on a project to attach Ikea Metod kitchen countertops invisibly and securely, but I can’t find a really satisfactory method or clear instructions for this.
My question is: What is the best way to install the countertops from the Ikea Metod kitchen series so that the fasteners are not visible and the countertops are absolutely secure and durable?
I have heard of various tricks, such as countertop brackets, special screws, mounting adhesive, or even anchor-free solutions. It is important to me that nothing wobbles, the countertop is stable, and everything looks neat—especially no visible fasteners on the front or sides of the countertops.
It might also be relevant whether it is laminate or solid wood countertops, but I believe there are standard dimensions and manufacturer recommendations for the Metod series.
Do you perhaps have the perfect combination of DIY techniques, materials, or tools that make this work? Thanks in advance for your tips!

On the Methodology of Fastening Ikea Metod Worktops:
Worktop brackets are the standard solution. They provide a positive and frictional connection between the base cabinet carcass and the worktop. Important points during installation:
- Ensure the brackets are installed vertically – errors in the angle can weaken the connection.
- Check the tightness of the screws after 24 hours of load.
- Using specially adapted fasteners ensures long-lasting stability.
Assembly adhesive is only a supplementary element and does not replace mechanical fastening.
For solid wood worktops, I recommend monitoring tension and swelling measurements, as these can change with moisture. This helps to avoid pre-stressing.

Hello sanri,
To go into more detail: The Ikea Metod series is modular and well-designed, but mounting the countertops requires precise, millimeter-accurate work.
- The countertop brackets should ideally be installed 10 to 12 cm (4 to 5 inches) from the edges of the countertops to avoid pressure marks or later lifting of the surfaces.
- Make sure the brackets are fixed to load-bearing parts of the cabinet structure, meaning not just the thin side panels but the cabinet back panel or cross braces.
- Screw lengths should be at least 25 to 30 mm (1 to 1 1/4 inches), matching the material thickness.
One more tip: For laminate countertops, you can apply small dots of clear varnish on the drilled edges to prevent the laminate from peeling later.
One more question about your planning: Will the countertops be installed with corners? If so, the corner joint angle should be given special attention.

Wow, there are already so many great tips here! 😊 I personally love to prepare every step carefully – that really makes a difference!
My advice for all Ikea Metod fans: Make sure to use high-quality screws when fastening and place the brackets very precisely. Without a secure hold, no panel is fun to work with, right?
And when everything is firmly in place, the result not only looks great but also lasts for many years.
I’m looking forward to your result, sanri! Keep at it and don’t let drilling make you nervous. 💪

Question for you: What type of countertop will you use (melamine, solid wood, laminate), and are the base cabinets already installed or are you planning a complete new installation? Thank you for the detailed question! The countertops are laminate, relatively thin at about 28 mm (1.1 inches), and they will be mounted on the Metod cabinet frames. The base cabinets are already in place, properly aligned and securely fixed.
The countertop will be joined in a straight line without corners, meaning no corner joints. My main concern is the long-term stability so that nothing wobbles under load, while also ensuring that no mounting hardware will be visible.
I’m leaning toward using the original Ikea brackets combined with mounting adhesive, but I’m unsure how much the adhesive will actually contribute or whether there might be a reaction with the laminate. Do any of you have useful advice on this?
