Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to buy an Ikea Brimnes wardrobe model and am looking into how well or how tightly the doors actually close. My main question is: How tightly do the Ikea Brimnes doors close? I’m especially interested in whether the doors close flush, if air or light can pass through, and how stable and firm the closing mechanism is.

Has anyone had practical experience with this piece of furniture and can share whether the doors close securely, if there are any gaps, or if the doors change over time? Also, how is the noise when closing—do the doors slam shut or are there soft-close dampers installed?

I look forward to your insights and tips!

As a supplement:

Typical gap widths are between 2-4 mm (0.08-0.16 inches)

That matches my experience as well. The magnetic closures provide secure holding without allowing for a complete seal.

Missing seals or rubber buffers also mean that air and light can pass through these small gaps.

This is an important point. Anyone relying on full insulation against dust, light, or airborne factors should not consider Brimnes doors to be airtight or odor-proof.

The locking mechanism is functional but designed more for ease of use rather than perfect sealing.

To return to the original point: The doors close reliably but are not airtight.

In summary:
- Magnetic catches for secure fastening
- Gap of approximately 2-4 mm (0.08-0.16 inches)
- No sealing system installed
- No soundproofing or air tightness provided

So, anyone looking for a visually nearly closed cabinet will be satisfied. However, those who prioritize airtight doors with odor containment or sound-dampening functions should consider other systems.

Thank you very much for your detailed answers and assessments. This really helps me and gives me a realistic idea of what to expect from Brimnes doors. Due to the gap size and the lack of damping, I will probably either be very careful with my purchasing decision or possibly compare other models if a tighter seal becomes important to me.

If anyone has tips or practical experience with retrofitting dampers or seals on Brimnes doors, I would appreciate any advice. Otherwise, it is clear to me: the doors close well but are neither perfectly sealed nor sound-dampened.
