Hello everyone, I am currently planning a new wardrobe system and am considering the IKEA PAX series. Before making a final decision, I would like to know: What is the usual height of IKEA PAX wardrobes?
I am mainly interested in the standard dimensions, as I want to ensure the height fits my ceiling without having to compromise on functionality. It would also be helpful to know if there are multiple height options and how flexible the assembly can be.
Thank you in advance for your experiences and tips!

Hey LYAN35,
good question you asked! The PAX wardrobes actually come in different heights – IKEA usually offers three standard sizes: 201 cm (79 inches), 236 cm (93 inches), and 271 cm (107 inches).
You can choose depending on your ceiling height and storage needs. If the ceiling isn’t very high, the 201 cm (79 inches) version often works well, otherwise the larger 236 cm (93 inches) or even 271 cm (107 inches) versions, which almost reach the ceiling and provide a lot of space.
When assembling, keep in mind that the higher the wardrobe, the stronger the wall mounting should be, so a bit more effort is needed for safety. But it’s definitely worth it if you want plenty of storage.
If you’re not familiar with the depth yet: PAX models are usually available in 35 cm (14 inches) and 58 cm (23 inches) depth.
If you have any more questions, just ask!

to fully answer your question about the height of IKEA PAX wardrobes, it is important to also consider the individual components, as the PAX system is highly modular.
The three common carcass heights are:
- 201 cm (for rooms with standard ceiling height)
- 236 cm (for rooms with slightly higher ceilings)
- 271 cm (for particularly high ceilings or when an almost floor-to-ceiling solution is desired)
These heights are standardized to ensure compatibility with various doors, such as folding or hinged doors. The measurements include the plinth, which is often added separately and adds a few extra centimeters.
If you are planning the wardrobe, for example, in an attic with a sloping ceiling, it is advisable to start with the 201 cm model and adjust doors and shelves upward as needed.
I would be interested to know: What is the height of your room ceiling? Have you already considered how you will fix the wardrobe to the wall? Especially with the taller models, proper anchoring is important to ensure stability and avoid accidents.
If you need more details about the interior fittings or accessories, I can also assist with that.

Hello LYAN35,
to add to your question: The height of the PAX wardrobe depends not only on the cabinet sections but also on the choice of doors and plinths, which is sometimes overlooked.
Exactly, the doors are manufactured accordingly and fit the three standard heights. The 201 cm (79 inches) option is the most classic and designed for standard ceiling heights, 236 cm (93 inches) works well for rooms with at least 2.50 m (8 ft 2 in) ceilings, and for very tall rooms over 2.70 m (8 ft 10 in), the 271 cm (107 inches) wardrobe is the suitable choice.
I also always recommend considering wall anchoring for the taller versions – IKEA includes mounting hardware, so make sure to use it! Although the wardrobes are sturdy, tipping is a risk with such tall furniture.
Overall, the PAX system is very flexible. If your room has unusual dimensions, combining different elements often allows for a custom fit.
I hope you find the exact model that suits your space!
