Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into the furniture quality at Ikea, specifically the Brimnes series. I am particularly interested in how durable the hinges on these pieces are.

My main question is: How resistant and long-lasting are the hinges on the Brimnes dressers or display cabinets with regular use? I have heard that on some Ikea products, the hinges can become loose or stop closing properly after some time.

Has anyone had experience with whether the hinges used in Brimnes furniture are really of good quality and can still be adjusted well after extended use? Or do they often require readjustment or replacement?

Thanks for the information!

Hello Kira52,

Your question about the hinges on the Ikea Brimnes series is very specific, which I really appreciate. I have been using several Brimnes furniture pieces myself for about 2 years and can share my experience:

- The hinges are reasonably solid for the price but are made from basic metal and plastic.
- With normal use, I haven’t experienced any major failures or deformations; the doors still close properly.
- However, it is quite possible that the door may shift slightly over time. The hinges can be adjusted (usually in three dimensions), which helps to relieve stress on the furniture.
- For some older models, I have heard that the hinges can develop some looseness or become less tight after extended use, but this seems to be rare.

Overall, I would say the hinges are designed for typical household use, but if you heavily load the furniture, for example with particularly heavy doors or very frequent opening, wear may occur more quickly.

If you have just bought the furniture and feel the hinges are not working correctly, it is usually worth adjusting them with the appropriate tool, such as a small Phillips screwdriver.

Looking forward to more feedback here!

I have several Brimnes dressers at home. The hinges are fine, hold well, and can be adjusted.

If a hinge causes problems, just order an Ikea replacement part. That way, you’re on the safe side.

I agree with this and would like to add:

- The Brimnes hinges are not high-end fittings; they are rather standard components often used in inexpensive furniture.
- They are usually made of steel, sometimes zinc-plated to reduce corrosion, and adjustments can be made via screws on the hinge body.
- For normal household use, they are sufficiently durable, but they may show wear under heavy use (such as frequent opening over several years, high door loads, or exposure to moisture).
- It is important that all screws are tightened and properly adjusted during installation to prevent early loosening.
- Replacement parts are generally inexpensive and easy to reorder.

It should also be considered that furniture in this price range cannot match the hinges of premium furniture in terms of durability and robustness. However, in terms of functionality and everyday usability, they usually serve their purpose well.

If you need long-lasting durability over many years, it would make sense to specifically look for more robust fittings in advance.

I can only say: I love my Brimnes furniture, and the hinges work perfectly! 😊

- After more than a year, I haven’t experienced any problems.
- Of course, sometimes you need to readjust, especially when you open or move heavy items several times.

Yes, that’s possible without much effort. Ikea actually does a pretty good job with their standard hinges. Don’t worry, you get a lot of value for the price! If you need any tips, I’m happy to help!
