Hello everyone, I have an Ikea Platsa shelving unit, but I’m missing some replacement parts or they are damaged – specifically, a few screws are missing and one side panel has a small defect. I would like to know how you go about ordering replacement parts for Platsa?

What exact steps should be followed to get the right parts without wasting unnecessary time?

I’m especially interested in: What information should be provided to Ikea exactly (model numbers, photos, parts lists?), is there a direct contact option for customer service, or is everything handled through the online store?

Also: Are parts usually in stock, or should one expect longer waiting times? Maybe you have some practical tips that can simplify the ordering process or help avoid mistakes.

Thanks for your help!

I know this all too well—when you urgently need a part and somehow end up stuck in the process, it can be really frustrating.

What has helped me is first making sure exactly which part is missing (for example, by using the assembly instructions and replacement part lists from Ikea).

Then I usually contact Ikea by phone because I feel that’s the quickest way to get reliable information. Sometimes it also helps to have the model number and exact part description ready, otherwise it can take longer.

I’ve also experienced that some parts were not available, but overall it works quite well if you keep at it.

Important: stay patient and polite, because customer service representatives usually do want to help if you treat them with respect.

Find the model number in the manual.
Choose spare parts ordering online from Ikea.
Enter the part number or use the description.
You can also order by phone, but online is faster.
Delivery time is usually 1–2 weeks.

I completely agree. Precisely identifying the replacement part is essential for a successful order.

I also recommend taking a quick scan or photo of the part number in the Ikea manual and having this information ready when ordering. This helps avoid misunderstandings.

Additionally, if parts are special (e.g., with specific finishes), make sure to specify the exact designation; otherwise, they sometimes send a standard version.

I have also had good experiences when speaking directly with the service staff at the Ikea store, as you can sometimes pick up replacement parts on the spot – but this usually applies only to simple items.

Yes, and that’s the point: you shouldn’t get discouraged!

I once had several broken parts with my PLATSA and was really frustrated – but the replacement order went smoothly in the end, and the delivery arrived on time.

The best approach: prepare everything calmly and properly, then it works great!

And if something needs to be reordered – stay on it and follow up by phone if necessary. Don’t let yourself be unsettled, every beginning is a bit bumpy, but the system works! 😊
